GREEN LANTERN

Floating Sauna, Oslo 2018

Green Lantern is a floating timber sauna and glasshouse. The sauna functions are on the lower level and the glasshouse is above. The glasshouse is filled with vegetation and warmed by the sauna beneath. At night or on dark winter evenings,  the glasshouse will glow like a green lantern in Oslo Harbour!

Green Lantern is designed over two levels so it can connect directly to the harbour level with a flexible gangway wherever it needs to. This allows members to walk directly onto the structure and then down a spiral staircase to the bathing area below. The glasshouse acts as a waiting area before you join the sauna or a place to relax and enjoy a thermos of hot chocolate after your dip in the water.

The whole structure is designed to be built in timber, using standard sizes to reduce costs. The priority in the budget is given to: rainwater collection system for WC, good quality materials and large windows in the sauna which give views out over the whole of Oslo harbour.
